Biography
[PRESENT]
Philadelphia's Brothers Past is rapidly emerging as one of the most
talked about independent acts in the nation. The band partnered with
a top producer on their latest CD entitled This Feelings Called
Goodbye. Released at a sold-out Bowery Ballroom, the album is drawing
accolades from the press and within the industry. Glide Magazine wrote,
Brothers Past focuses on the art of songwriting and does it in
a unique way that sets them apart from the pack. When you combine strong,
well-written, catchy songs like State Police and Simple Gift of Man
with electronica laden powerhouses like Celebrity and Words Like Weapons,
you get a detailed glimpse into the future of music.
With its emotive
mix of rock and electronica, This Feelings Called Goodbye
distinguishes the band and accentuates their powerful crossover appeal.
Blending the aesthetics of their influences with their own distinctive
styles and progressive musical visions, the band continues to push the
boundaries of rock. Experimenting with mood, tone and effects, the members
create evolutionary soundscapes, splashed with elements of modern rock,
electronic and dance music. Yet, it is Brothers Pasts emphasis
on song craft, creative arrangements and inspired lyrics that is propelling
the band towards an exciting future.
[PAST]
For the past several years, Brothers Past has been fusing songs heavy
on concept with a futuristic brand of improvisation capturing the imagination
of concertgoers. With over 700 performances since 2000, the band has
gained a reputation as a thunderous live act with a wide repertoire
of songs and sounds. In review of a February 2005 show at the new Higher
Ground, Joe Adler wrote, the band lives up to and, at times, completely
exceeds the hype.Three recent sell-outs in New York and a full
house at the Trocodero, as well as the Theater of Living Arts in Philadelphia,
attest to the bands rise in popularity.
Past work includes
the September 2004 EP, statEPolice, which Chicago's Innerview call "Delicious."
Excitement from the EP led to a CMJ Music Conference showcase performance
at the Jacob Javits Center. A Wonderful Day, the bands .The Philadelphia
Inquirer called the December 2002 full-length CD, was deemed"Excellent,
eccentric, engrossing."by ThePhiladelphia Inquirer.Sea of Tranquility
described the album as, "Part Pink Floyd, part Radiohead and all
captivatingly bizarre." The Philadelphia Daily News wrote, "The
buzz has been very good on rock originals Brothers Past, and yes, it's
deserving. This group jumps out as something special on its futuristic
concept album A Wonderful Day." In 2001 the band conceived Elements,
a daring and experimental recording weaving live, computer, and studio
tracks to create an altogether new sonic tapestry. Richard Gehr of the
Village Voice exclaimed, "Elements has style. It's one of the first
great post-Phish trance-fusion albums and sounds like Pink Floyd jamming
with Sasha and Digweed in Brian Eno's bedroom."
[FUTURE]
The band continues to write prolifically. After a seven-week spring
tour, the band has a full late-spring and summer schedule including
many prime festival appearances. The fall brings another national tour
and plans are in the works for a follow-up project late in the year.
In addition, October brings the national tour back east for a much-anticipated
homecoming in New York City and Philadelphia. Fall and early winter
will be active with concerts and studio sessions. A 2005 full-length
release will showcase the band's songwriting skills and flair for integrating
compositional subtleties and stylistic accents in their recordings.
Later this year, the organization will launch a direct artist-to-audience
interactive Web portal offering access to the live music archive, studio
projects, video, exclusive content, community interaction, discounts
and other fan benefits. Plans for an extensive Spring 2005 Tour, along
with featured Festival appearances next summer, are well under way.
Progression lies ahead.
